Waypoint Chronicles

A waypoint is a fixed mark on a voyage. You reach it, check your position against it, and leave with a corrected heading. A Waypoint study works the same way. You walk through one book of the Bible a passage at a time and a day at a time, and each day you check your position against what you’ve just read.

My heart’s cry is to see the body of Christ move from passive spectators to fully engaged disciples. We don’t just read the Word. We navigate by it.

The shape of a day

• One passage. It’s a few verses, read slowly, not a chapter skimmed.
• Three Points to Ponder. These are questions, not answers. They’re aimed at the mirror and not at your neighbor. The study asks instead of telling, and the answers that matter are yours.
• One Application. This is one concrete thing to do today. It’s not an idea to agree with. It’s something you can do before dark.

In Romans, each volume opens with the setting: who was writing, to whom, and what was going on. Each one closes with a day for looking back over the whole stretch before you move on.

A Waypoint study is follow by obeying put into practice. In the Disciple’s Compass, it fits in the Scripture block of the day’s page, which holds one Bible interaction a morning and something written back to it.

Coming in Winter 2026

• Romans, verse by verse, in five volumes of about 150 days. It runs from the problem of universal sin, through justification by faith and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, to the ethics of the kingdom.
• James, one passage a day, about faith that acts.

Why the Berean Standard Bible

Whenever I publish anything with Scripture in it, I use the Berean Standard Bible, the BSB. The reason is simple. It’s open text, free to publish and to share anywhere, with no copyright restrictions on it. A study you can pass along should be in a Bible you can pass along.

Study in the translation you’re most comfortable with. The one I study in at home isn’t the BSB either. Just know why you use the one you use.
